This is a scene from Mattoon Street probably from the mid-1870's. It was taken from the corner of Mattoon and Chestnut. Visible in the background is the North Church, built in 1872. This photo shows two standalone houses that used to exist on the left side of Mattoon Street. These were presumably knocked down in the mid-1920's, since that is the date that the replacement buildings were built.
