Third National Bank Block and Evans House

Third National Bank Block and Evans House

This block stood at the southeast corner of Main and Hillman Streets. This building is no longer standing, the site is currently occupied by part of the SIS building. It housed the Third National Bank and what is described as a family hotel, called the Evans House.

Main Street and Court Street

Main Street and Court Street

This appears to be the block on the northwest corner of State and Court Streets. A sign for Moore Brothers photographers, which was across from Court Square, seems to be on the right, and the carpet store pictured is probably Tinkham and Co., which was on the corner of State and Court.

This site is now occupied by the Sovereign Bank Building.

Mattoon Street Residences

Mattoon Street Residences

This is a scene from Mattoon Street probably from the mid-1870's. It was taken from the corner of Mattoon and Chestnut. Visible in the background is the North Church, built in 1872. This photo shows two standalone houses that used to exist on the left side of Mattoon Street.

Central Street Row Houses

Central Street Row Houses

These row houses are in the South End, on the corner of Main and Central Streets. They were built in 1883, and were recently renovated.
